Associate Professor Tanja Schneider is the new Head of Section of Human-Centered Innovation at DTU Management!
Tanja started by studying business and economics, with courses in sociology. She soon shifted to mainly focus on sociology and technology, and her interest in combining sociology and science continued throughout her academic career in different countries.
Tanja was interested in working at a technical university because of the great learning process from former projects in collaboration with computer scientists and is pleased to join DTU Management and be able to work on her ethnographical research in close relation to the engineers.
As the new Head of Section, Tanja was very drawn to Brit Ross Winthereiks' vision for Technology and Business Studies division and is looking forward to working collaboratively and interdisciplinary with the talented people in the section.
Brit is also pleased to be welcoming Tanja at DTU,” I am incredibly pleased that Tanja has chosen to join DTU Management. She was a top candidate during an impressive pool of applicants. Her research on digital eating and citizen participation and non-participation in digital society inspires me a lot in my own research, too. I look forward to continuing growing the STS (Science and Technology Studies) environment in collaboration with Tanja”, Brit said.
Recently, Tanja’s focus has been on food science and technology, and the digitalization of food and eating. Tanja has for example developed a mobile phone app where people can upload data from their loyalty card programmes and the app will show how healthy they have been shopping in collaboration with computer scientists from all over the world.
Tanja’s research within this area has led her to conclude that food is much more than fueling our bodies, it is more about social contexts and relations forming from food. This notion can be seen in other of her projects on food innovations and sustainable food innovations. Here, she focused on the claims by the industry to disrupt the food industry and invest in sustainable food, but instead using the claims to gage retail partners, and sometimes corporate venture funds as investment strategies. Tanja used this to show how this topic on sustainable food, can shape the societal debate.
She has recently joined the board of the Danish STS association and has been appointed the vice chair of the association. With her research connections and involvement in the Science and Technology Studies, she looks forward to delving into her new job at DTU: “As a section leader, I want to provide good research and working environment for my team and colleagues."
A huge welcome to Tanja Schneider as the new Head of Section at Human-Centered Innovation at DTU Management!
